July 22, 2022How does skip hire work?: The complete 10-step process
August 3, 2022It was the hottest day of the July heatwave when we caught up with Emerald Landscapes’ co-founder Giedrius Kiskenas.
But as someone that launched a successful company during a pandemic, Giedrius has become used to doing business in extraordinary circumstances.
“I don’t think there’s a good time or a bad time to run a company,” he explained. “Every business is successful depending on how much time and energy you’re willing to put into it.”
Giedrius, who goes by Greg (“it’s just easier for people to remember”), decided to set up Emerald Landscapes when he and his business partner Adam Whiting realised how much value clients got from the peace of mind that comes with hiring expert landscapers.
He said, “Emerald is made up of people we trust to deliver good-quality landscaping with beautiful finishing. We’ll never walk away from a project and any issues that come up will be dealt with.
“We give 10-15 year guarantees on our labour. If a slab starts moving two years later, we’ll be there to fix it – 100%.”
Looking back, the Cambridgeshire pair feel that the pandemic was actually quite a good time to launch a landscaping company.

Giedrius said, “We entered the market during a peak in a way – and it took off very well!
“People started realising they couldn’t go abroad and there were a lot of unknowns. It was much easier for them to justify spending that money on the garden.”
Even with the added challenge of the cost of living crisis, people still invest in landscaping to boost the value of their homes, according to Giedrius.
He said, “It’s more than having it look nicer. It’s a longer-term investment if they decide to sell. Great landscaping increases the property’s value as well as giving them a beautiful place to spend time outside.”
Emerald Landscapes – which serves a 30-mile radius around Cambridge – offers driveways, garden design, fencing, lawns, structures, decking, paving and drop kerbs. No matter the project, Giedrius considers everything that Emerald takes on to be special.
“Designs are always nice to do,” Giedrius told SunSkips. “The process is a lot longer, but the outcome is far more impressive. Then from a business point of view, driveways are often the best thing because they’re pretty simple to plan for.”
Digging out gardens and driveways generates a lot of green waste and rubble, but Giedrius says that working with SunSkips for their Cambridge skip hire has made the whole process a breeze.

He said, “We usually book a skip for every project. It allows us to leave the site clean and tidy without having to move stuff ourselves.
“We could fill out all the forms necessary to shift it, but it’s all very time-consuming, not to mention the labour, wages, diesel, and so on…
“For the price we agreed with Pete at SunSkips, everything is so much easier and it makes more sense. We order a skip, get it, load it, it’s taken away in a few days, and everyone is happy.”
SunSkips takes care of waste transfer notes and any skip hire permits customers might need to place a container on a public road and sends it in one handy email. If you’re a landscaping business looking for a more cost-effective and efficient solution to your waste management, get in touch today.
