September 16, 2021SunSkips decided to do their own good deed for the day when the Cambridge waste management company donated a skip to the local scout group’s much-needed clear-out.
Knowing what a struggle it’s been for extracurricular groups to get together during the pandemic, SunSkips was happy to provide a 12-yard skip to get 2nd Cottenham Scout Group HQ ready for regular meet-ups again.
Scout leader Rebecca Bell explained that due to COVID restrictions, the scout hut had been left unused since February 2020, but now wanted to get it ready for a fresh start.
“It’s made it hard for parents with kids at home. I know mine drove me up the wall,” Rebecca joked.
“But the hut was full of rubbish,” she continued. “We had a backlog of stuff to get rid of going back 15 years, if not longer. There were even some canoes that were no longer suitable for taking out on the water…
“With the kids helping out and the skip outside, we were finished quicker than we thought.”
Donations welcome
Rebecca, who decided to reach out to SunSkips on her company Gas Monster’s recommendation, was keen to thank the team for donating the skip.
Not only have Scouts not been able to hold their regular meetings during the pandemic, but they also haven’t been able to organise fundraising events, forcing the group to rely solely on donations and membership subs.
“Thank you very much, SunSkips! It’s much appreciated. We’re normally running on quite a tight budget,“ Rebecca added.
Now the clear-up has been taken care of, Rebecca is excited to start the next phase of renovations, which will give the Scouts the opportunity to help out and work towards their DIY badges.
New leaders
On top of seeking funds, 2nd Cottenham Scout Group really needs leaders to step up and inspire youngsters to grow and develop after a particularly difficult time for them.
Rebecca is hoping younger leaders will step forward and volunteer to guide the children in energetic activities now we’re all outside a bit more.
She added, “We currently have children on a waiting list due to a shortage of Scout leaders. All the training is provided and you may only need to commit to a couple of hours a week.
“It’s a great opportunity to learn additional skills and do some fun activities with kids.”
Anyone interested in helping out at 2nd Cottenham Scouts should email secretary@cottenham-scouts.org.uk for more details.
Having a clear-out to get things up and running again?
Clear-outs of a huge backlog of rubbish can be daunting and are regularly put off due to the amount of decision-making that comes with it: “How do you dispose of that? How do you recycle these? Can this really go in a skip?”
SunSkips worries about all that for you so you can focus on organising the clear-out. We’ve created easy-to-understand guides from what can’t be thrown into a skip to what size skip is the right one for the job.
If you’re having a home or office clear-out and could do with the process being as smooth and hassle-free as possible, contact SunSkips on 01449 360 036 or 01223 976 496. Alternatively, you can get your skip hire confirmed right now using our simple online booking platform.
