March 13, 2021Commercial skip hire: how to choose the best skip hire firm for the job
March 22, 2021Being a company that prides itself on its commitment to green waste management, SunSkips is always keen to play a part in Global Recycling Day on March 18.
The reality is, the Earth’s resources are limited and we need to do everything we can to preserve what we have left by recycling. That’s why SunSkips is dedicated to sorting our customers’ waste in order to reuse as much of it as possible – even turning some of it into clean energy sources at our innovative new site.
But for recycling to make a real impact, we need everyone in the community to get behind recycling initiatives, so here’s SunSkips’ seven tips to boost your recycling efforts and help keep your community clean and green…
1. Learn to clean and sort your recycling properly
Understanding how to recycle your household waste properly is essential to making sure your efforts make an impact.
For example, did you know that if you don’t rinse out glass jars, you run the risk of them being rejected at the local recycling centre and redirected straight to landfill?
Check information from your local authority for best recycling practices, like the Suffolk Recycles website.
2. Celebrate #RecyclingHeroes
The theme for Global Recycling Day 2021 is #RecyclingHeroes. Is there anybody in your area that’s making a big impact with their recycling efforts?
Whether it’s the neighbour you see carrying out boxes of recycling every week without fail or the local school initiative to cut down on plastic use, share their story on your social media page with the hashtag #RecyclingHeroes and give them the credit they deserve!
3. Fix stuff, repurpose waste
A fool-proof way to manage recycling is to not create any in the first place!
Rather than replacing clothes and shoes at the first sign of wear and tear, get that old sewing machine out and repair them. Or instead of forking out at IKEA, repurpose large glass jars for handy food storage. Added bonus: you’ll save yourself a ton of cash too!
4. Plan a movie night
OK, we appreciate it might be a hard sell to sit your family in front a documentary film about protecting the planet on a Thursday night, but this one stars Leonardo DiCaprio!
Before the Flood explores the dangers of climate change, and the impact that being wasteful has on our planet. It’s on Netflix, check it out!
5. Educate friends and family on recycling
Get involved in Global Recycling Day by posting about it on your social media accounts and showing that you stand for making the planet a cleaner place to live.
If you haven’t got any ideas of what to post, just follow the #GlobalRecyclingDay hashtags and share some of the content you discover (like this post right here, for example).
6. Build your own home recycling centre
Recycling bins bought from the hardware store typically only contain two or three bins to sort your recycling into, when there are so many more things you need to recycle. And even if you were to buy several, it’s not always easy to find the space for them.
So, for a fun project, why not build your own like this resourceful mum? You can even get a “family command centre” out of the bargain!
7. Choose a reputable waste management company
Using a properly licensed waste management company like SunSkips will guarantee that your waste is handled with the environment in mind.
While unaccredited skip hire and waste management services might take your waste directly to landfill – or worse contribute to local fly-tipping – SunSkips sorts through anything that can be put to good use at our site.
