June 27, 2021SunSkips will be expanding to a third site in Haverhill after being granted planning permission to bring the first recycling site of its kind to the Suffolk town.
Having already established itself in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire with sites in Stowmarket and Cambridge, SunSkips’ Haverhill skip hire site will allow the company to better serve businesses and residents further south.
SunSkips will be operating Haverhill’s only recycling facility, bringing a more environmentally-friendly solution to the town‘s waste management needs, as well as much-needed employment opportunities for locals.
Work has already begun on the new Haverhill site – on Phoenix Road – and it’s set to be completed and operational by early 2022.
Mat Stewart, SunSkips managing director, was thrilled that the company was approved to serve Haverhill and offer the same high level of service at unbeatable prices to people in the area.
He said, “At a time where ethical waste management is more important than ever in order to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, we’re really pleased to be able to bring quality commercial and domestic waste management to the Haverhill area.”
The new Haverhill site will be able to process 75,000 tonnes of waste per year. It will feature a standalone recycling building, static recycling plant, storage bays, an office and welfare building, weighbridge, and parking for lorries.
SunSkips vehicles leaving the site will be cleaned down before they head off in order to prevent dust or grit from spreading onto public roads. Noise-limiting technology in the new HGVs coming to the site will also be used to protect neighbouring residents and businesses. Access will be exclusively from Phoenix Road.
According to the planning decision notice, the new SunSkips site won’t have an “unacceptable or disproportionate impact to the safety or capacity of the highway network, nor to local amenity through noise, dust, light or odour.”
Haverhill… and beyond!
On top of the third site in Haverhill, early-stage development for an Ipswich skip hire site is underway, as well as for locations in King’s Lynn and Beccles.
Mat added, “SunSkips has really hit its stride! Our rate of growth is a testament to our customers’ satisfaction with our service. We can’t wait to get going in all these new locations and help more people with their waste management.”
SunSkips’ newest site in Cottenham, which opened in February this year, is already going strong, with several new drivers being hired to deliver and collect skips in the Cambridge area.
Not only has the East Cambridge skip hire site brought 15 new jobs to the area, but it’s also using innovative methods to direct waste away from landfill by turning it into useful SRF (solid recovered fuel).
The company hopes to soon adopt new waste management technology to protect the environment, such as tracking plastic bottles to make sure their recycling is properly managed.
