SunSkips’ Dirty Dozen: The ultimate playlist for a proper clearout

Need some inspiration for whipping your garage into shape? Getting ready to pump yourself up for a deep dive into that overflowing wardrobe? Or maybe you’re just doing a proper weekly clean and fancy making it a bit more exciting…

Whatever kind of clearout you’re looking to tackle, SunSkips has got the ultimate clearout playlist for you to make the whole thing a breeze.

What are you waiting for? Strap on a pair of rubber gloves, maybe do a few light stretches in case the air guitar beckons, and hit play… (sticking with the theme, we’ve opted for the clean versions of a couple of the more explicit tracks).

1. Dirrty – Christina Aguilera (feat. Redman)

“You ain’t here to party!”

Quite right, you are not here to party. This is going to be an exercise in good, old fashioned elbow grease.

And make sure you wear some clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty…

2. My Humps – The Black Eyed Peas

“What’cha gonna do with all that junk?”

With a garage brimming with junk, it’s natural to wonder what you’re going to do with it all…

Fortunately, a quick call to SunSkips (or a few clicks for an online booking) and you’ll have an eight-yard skip on the way to sort out your huge pile of household rubbish in next to no time.

3. Pick Up The Pieces – Average White Band

“Pick up the pieces, uh, huh!”

That rubbish isn’t going to pick up itself, you know!

Get started with a funky track that has just the right tempo to get things moving…

4. Yakety Yak – The Coasters

“Take out the papers and the trash!”

With some of the clutter out of the way, it’s time to get cooking with arguably the cheeriest cleaning song of all time.

But despite its upbeat melody, this track is pretty no-nonsense: scrub the kitchen floor, clean up your room… and don’t talk back!

5. Cleanin’ Out My Closet – Eminem

“Tonight, I’m cleanin’ out my closet.”

To be fair, this is obviously a song about family trauma, but I dare you to not wave your hands in the air to it when you’re going through those ratty old shirts.

Also, it’s probably best to start in the morning. These things always take longer than you think.

6. Toys In The Attic – Aerosmith

“Leaving the things that you love.”

Among the first things in your crosshairs when executing a big clearout should be the kids’ old toys; they take up a lot of space and their sentimental value simply doesn’t justify storing them.

Consider donating them to children in need who’ll get a lot more joy out of them. Get the old pictures out if you think getting rid of them will make you a bit weepy.

7. Irreplaceable – Beyoncé

“To the left, to the left. Everything you own in a box to the left”

So you’re looking through a box of your old stuff and feeling a bit nostalgic… But is it really irreplaceable?

Be ruthless when going through things you haven’t needed for years and make a fresh start. Feels good, right?

8. Money For Nothing – Dire Straits

“We got to move these refrigerators, we gotta move these colour TVs”

You might not play the guitar on the MTV, but you can still make a few quid for your junk on the eBay.

SunSkips is always happy to hire you a skip to collect your trash, but why not see if it’s another man’s treasure first?

9. Car Wash – Rose Royce

“Talkin’ ’bout the car wash!”

Are you really going to clear out the garage without giving the car a once over?

Do a proper job and get the chamois leather out as well. Or just offer a willing child a few quid to do it for you (do kids even still do that these days?)

10. Since U Been Gone – Kelly Clarkson

“But since you been gone, I can breathe for the first time.”

It’s a relief to finally get rid of all that stuff, isn’t it?

Now you’ve got some room to breathe, just think of all the things you’ll be able to do with that extra space (is now the time to get that pool table you’ve always talked about?)

11. So Fresh, So Clean – Outkast

“I love when you stare at me, I’m just so fresh, so clean!”

Time to stand back and admire all your hard work.

Finished patting yourself on the back? Good. Now get the job finished with a proper sweep and polish. It’ll be worth it in the end.

12. Dirt Off Your Shoulder – JAY-Z

“Got some dirt on my shoulder; could you brush it off for me?”

Now the clearout’s finished and SunSkips has collected your waste, it’s probably a good idea to have a good rinse off yourself.

Looking good! Now stick the kettle on and put your feet up. You’re done!
