June 13, 2023SunSkips got involved in a clear-out for a very worthy cause in Cambridge recently, offering up a free skip and even throwing in an extra pair of hands.
The Cambridge skip hire firm joined forces with Pure Resourcing Solutions for the project at the Abbey People community centre, a local charity that helps residents of the city’s Abbey ward.
SunSkips’ commercial account manager Rob Neal even got involved to help get the place looking spick and span.
The team removed decking and weeds, pulled up an old shed to give away, painted the centre’s Food Hub and filled two skips full of waste.
Joanna Bromwich, who works in talent acquisition at Pure Resourcing Solutions and is also a trustee at Abbey People, put in seven hours alongside her team at the Cambridge recruitment company.
She said, “I’m so proud to have been a part of the amazing team at Pure Resourcing Solutions who worked tirelessly to transform the back of the Abbey People community centre.
“I want to extend a huge thank you to SunSkips for donating a free skip and helping us secure another – we had a lot to clear out – and to Rob Neal from SunSkips for giving up his morning to help us.
“It’s amazing what can be accomplished when a group of people come together for a day of volunteering and I don’t think I have laughed so much for a long time… I can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have!”
Rob said the charity had reached out to another local skip hire firm that wasn’t prepared to help, but hearing about how much the area has been struggling with homelessness, he knew SunSkips had to chip in.
He said, “There was a lot of work to do, so on top of the free skip, I joined the morning team to help pull up some old decking and cart a load of stuff to the skip.
“Looking at Cambridge, you wouldn’t have thought there would be such a big problem with homelessness. It seems like such an affluent area, but it’s not all like that.”

Abbey People (formerly known as Abbey Action) was established in 2013. The charity supports at-risk people in the area of Cambridge via targeted community projects and volunteering as well as providing access to food, education and employment.
As a local business that’s always on the lookout for worthy causes to help out with, SunSkips couldn’t say no to lending a hand with the tidy up.
And it’s not the first time SunSkips has donated a skip to help community causes. In 2021, the Cambridge waste management decided to do their own good deed for the day by offering a free skip to get 2nd Cottenham Scout Group HQ ready for regular meet-ups post-lockdown.
SunSkips has also donated skips to Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS), the Food Museum, The Pony Club and Brave Futures.
SunSkips is proud to lend its experience in sustainable waste management to good causes in Cambridge and the wider East Anglia area.
