April 8, 2023SunSkips has lent a hand to an Ipswich children’s charity that needed to declutter a few things before their big move to a new office.
Brave Futures provides a support service for children and young people across Suffolk and Norfolk who have experienced sexual abuse by providing a safe space where they are believed, supported and empowered.
The charity was previously known as “Fresh Start – New Beginnings” before a recent rebranding to better reflect the service it provides and as a look ahead to the new premises.
Sandra Lucas, corporate and events fundraiser for Brave Futures, said the charity is entering its 10th anniversary year, so there will be lots of exciting things coming up.
She said, “The charity is growing fast, which is fantastic as this enables us to treat even more children in the area.
“The treatment plan offers them a pathway to a happier and more successful future. With the help and support from local corporate companies such as SunSkips, we can raise awareness of our charity, which is really important so that people know we are there to help the children make sense of their trauma and have a happier future.”

Brave Futures is appealing for any unused games, such as unwanted Christmas or birthday presents, that could be donated to help them communicate with some of the younger children they treat.
“We’re not looking for jumble,” explained Sandra. “But any good quality games that are unused can be really useful to play with children and help them open up. We also do raffles and tombolas to raise funds, so any donations like that are very welcome.”

While Brave Futures does receive funding from organisations like the National Lottery and the Police and Crime Commissioner, the charity goes to great lengths to raise extra funds including a wing-walking challenge and a dragon boat race.
It’s also Sandra’s job to raise awareness for Brave Futures, which can be difficult considering the subject matter.
She added, “We arrange for adult survivors to tell their stories and sometimes people don’t want to hear it because it’s so uncomfortable.
“But sharing these powerful stories of victims becoming children again is often what’s necessary to encourage people to get involved.”
SunSkips is proud to support local charities like Brave Futures and will continue to lend a hand to those in need across East Anglia.
