December 29, 2022On top of the very busy year SunSkips has had opening new sites across East Anglia, the skip hire company also found time to get involved in a few community causes.
From sports sponsorships to supporting the local volunteer ambulance service, SunSkips has been more than happy to lend a hand, whether financially or by providing a skip free of charge.
Here’s a review of what SunSkips has been up to across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk in 2022:
New wheelchair for young tennis champ
When the SunSkips team heard that local tennis ace Ruby Bishop needed a helping hand to get the professional wheelchair she needed to compete, we knew we had to get involved.
Through the fantastic local charity GeeWizz, SunSkips majority funded the wheelchair with a £5,000 donation, paving the way for 17-year-old Ruby – who has cerebral palsy – to continue her journey to the Paralympics.
Aileen Belsberg, GeeWizz CEO, said, “We are completely blown away by your hugely generous donation, what an INCREDIBLE email to receive!”
Planting trees at Bury Rugby Club
To help Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club raise funds and sort out the flooding at their grounds, SunSkips chipped in with the club’s tree planting campaign.
SunSkips paid for three of the 220 trees planted at the club, which raised up to £20 each and soaked up a lot of the groundwater causing issues for players.
Club chairman Craig Germeney said, “It’s nice for people to have something on the club’s premises with a name plaque to build a bit of community spirit.”
A little fun for Cottenham Colts
Skips aren’t just for waste management, you know… At Cottenham United Colts’ tournament earlier this year, the kids found the fun side of skip hire and made a game out of it.
The young footballers raised £175 for the club by turning the 4-yard skip into a “chip the skip” game, offering participants the chance to show off their skills by kicking the ball into the container from a distance.
Tom Webb, Vice Chairman of Cottenham United Colts, said, “On behalf of Cottenham Colts, we wanted to say a massive thank you for letting us have the skip. It was hugely popular with the children and we managed to raise a fantastic amount!”
Supporting local sports clubs
SunSkips sponsors several East Anglia sports clubs and we’re always happy to promote the skip hire brand with local teams that need an extra boost.
While the company benefits from the exposure, sponsorships from businesses are a lifeline to many small clubs, especially those that struggled to recover after the pandemic shut them down and made fundraising impossible.
So when the Suffolk Hunt branch of The Pony Club came up with the idea of a SunSkips-themed hurdle at the Area 8 Eventing in the summer, we jumped at the chance!
And we struggled to say no to Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club when they offered SunSkips the chance to brand their scoreboard.
Thurston RUFC was also keen to brighten up their grounds with SunSkips’ bright orange…
…and if you happen to catch a match at Nowton Cricket Club, you might spot SunSkips displayed somewhat conspicuously on the backs of their whites.
Volunteer ambulance Christmas tree-cycling
SunSkips responded to Suffolk Accident Rescue Service’s call to action for the second year running to help with the Christmas Tree-cycling Service.
To handle that much green waste, SunSkips loaned the volunteers a 40-yard skip, which ended up full to the brim with Suffolk’s old trees.
The emergency medical charity is running the fundraiser again in 2023 on January 6th & 7th – and SunSkips is back onboard. Book your collection now at trees@sars999.org.uk.
Special day for two lucky Cambridge City FC fans
To celebrate SunSkips’ sponsorship at Cambridge City FC, the skip hire company teamed up with the club to offer a pair of free tickets.
Lucky winner Andrew Soer treated a guest to the Lilywhites versus Loughborough Dynamo FC in their final home match of the season. The local pair also enjoyed hospitality courtesy of the club.
City Chairman Kevin Satchell said at the time of the partnership with the Cambridge skip hire company, “We are delighted to welcome SunSkips to the Cambridge City family.”
With more sites popping up in East Anglia in 2023, the SunSkips team can’t wait to get involved in the local communities that have welcomed us so warmly.
