June 22, 2022SunSkips made Cottenham United Colts’ tournament extra fun with a skip donation to help raise funds for the youth football club.
Organisers used the 4-yard skip as part of a “chip the skip” game, offering participants the chance to show off their skills by kicking the ball into the container from a distance.
The game raised £175 at the event – held at Cottenham Recreation Ground on Lambs Lane – on Sunday 29th May.
Tom Webb, Vice Chairman of Cottenham United Colts, said the attraction was a big hit with the kids and a welcome contribution to the collection pot.
He said, “On behalf of Cottenham Colts, we wanted to say a massive thank you for letting us have the skip. It was hugely popular with the children and we managed to raise a fantastic amount!”
Other fundraising activities at the tournament included raffling off a wheelbarrow full of booze (for the adults, obviously), as well as sponsorship from local businesses including Quattro Tech Cars used car dealers, Curry Palace Indian restaurant, family business C-eco Roofing, and both Pocock and Shaw and Let’s Rent Cambridge estate agents.
The tournament is a massive event in both the Cottenham Colts and village calendars, attracting around 15 teams from Under-six to Under-13s.
Cottenham United Colts is an FA Charter Standard club for local children aged five to 17. The club is currently made up of 22 boys teams and five girls teams.
The club was awarded the Cambs FA Grassroots Club of the Year Award in 2020, as well as the Living Sports Community Club of the Year Award.
Mat Stewart, SunSkips managing director, is always keen to get involved with good causes like the Cottenham United Colts tournament and will happily lend a skip when one’s needed.
He said, “Local teams like Cottenham United Colts have had a hard time raising funds in recent years with the pandemic shutting down much-needed events like the tournament.
“So if helping them put on a fun challenge with one of our skips is the way to get a bit of cash coming in, they can always count on us to lend a hand.”
As a little bonus, organisers used the skip to clear away the rubbish generated at the event, before it was collected, separated and processed at SunSkips’ Cambridge site on Histon Road.
SunSkips is a proud supporter of several local sports teams, including Cambridge City FC, Ipswich Vale Exiles, Sawston and Babraham Cricket Club, Bury St Edmunds RUFC and Bury Town FC.
