February 3, 2022People come first: How SunSkips’ focus on the personal touch grew the business
February 22, 2022Since SunSkips started getting involved with some of our local sports teams (Cambridge City FC, Ipswich Vale Exiles, Sawston and Babraham Cricket Club, Bury St Edmunds RUFC and Bury Town FC) it got us thinking about what we bring to the table as a team player.
Because while it’s exciting to have the SunSkips brand displayed on the pitches and kits of these beloved clubs, being part of a team means a lot more to us than just sponsorship.
So here are some of the main reasons we think you should pick SunSkips to be part of your team when your next waste management project rolls around…
We play by the rules
Whether you’re hiring a skip or need a waste management expert to help with your processes on a larger scale, it goes without saying that you should work with someone you can trust to do things properly.
SunSkips is committed to helping our clients navigate the often confusing bureaucracy involved in skip hire (permits, waste transfer notes, etc.) and delivering it all in one simple email so you can focus on the task at hand.
Our company (registered as Stowmarket Skips Ltd and trading as SunSkips) is a licensed waste carrier (you can quickly check whether or not a company holds a valid waste carrier licence on the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs’ register of waste carriers, brokers and dealers).
We respect kick-off time
At SunSkips, we understand that your project needs to run smoothly and that knowing your skip is going to arrive on time is key to keeping everything on track.
So it makes sense that we work hard to deliver your skip when you’re expecting it and no later. Of course, unforeseen interferences can happen – just like in sports fixtures – but good communication will make sure everyone’s where they need to be at the right time.
Speaking of which…
We take communication seriously
Our pitch board at Cambridge City FC is clear and to the point
From your first touchpoint with our friendly office staff to the moment your SunSkips driver collects your container, it’s our priority to communicate clearly with our customers.
Do you know what size skip you need? Will there be challenges in lowering your container onto your property? Will you need a skip hire permit?
It’s important to us that customers feel comfortable with their skip hire service and know that even if they use our simple online booking platform, there’s still a human being on the other end of the phone ready and willing to address any concerns so there’s no confusion.
We work toward the same goals
SunSkips is a business that’s entirely focused on solving problems for our clients. We’ve dealt with all sorts of situations that have left us well prepared for whatever special requirements our clients might have.
If you want your skip and drop-down door facing a certain direction, then so do we. Need a swift skip swap for a project with a steady stream of waste? We’ve got the strategy to make it happen.
“It’s really about listening to the customer and their needs so you can be sure they’re happy they’ve found the right solution,” says Anita Butters from SunSkips’ commercial sales team.
We react well to curveballs
A good team player can adapt quickly when the original strategy is thrown off course – something SunSkips has plenty of experience in.
Whether we need to get an eight-yard skip down a particularly tight country lane (see our driver Sophie Marshall pulling it off above) or lower it over a fence into a tight spot in the back garden, SunSkips will go above and beyond to make it happen.
We work well within the space
Not only are our highly skilled HGV drivers well-practised in getting in and out of tight spots to deliver skips all over Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, but they’ll also be able to advise of potential issues around the area that you want the skip placed.
Is that 14-yard skip going to block the entrance and present problems for emergency vehicles or restrict access to fire exits? Then we’ll need to work out an alternative together.
Will the ground be suitable for a skip that’s going to be filled with heavy construction waste, or are we going to need to lay down some supports?
Whatever the potential issue, you can trust our drivers to assess the situation with their head up and their eyes peeled.
We turn up with a positive attitude
No one wants a misery guts on the team, which is why SunSkips prides itself on hiring friendly drivers who always turn up with a can-do attitude.
SunSkips made the decision to offer highly competitive salaries to attract the country’s best and brightest lorry drivers who genuinely love what they do – and we certainly got our money’s worth.

We want the whole team to succeed
With SunSkips on your team, you can rest assured that you’ll be working with a skip hire firm that wants your waste removal to go as well as possible.
SunSkips board at Bury St Edmunds RUFC, right next to our pals Clarkes of Walsham Ltd!
So although we’ve tried to help you strategise with our handy online skip hire guide, we’re also more than happy to talk you through it over the phone.
It’s cheaper to hire the right skip for your project than it is to later find it wasn’t quite big enough (meaning you’ll need to fork out for another one) or that it was too big (meaning you could’ve got a better deal on a smaller one).
We can be flexible
Need an emergency skip hire the same day? Maybe you want to change your collection date or keep your container for a bit longer than our standard seven-day hire period…
Things naturally come up when you’re handling a large amount of waste, so you need a waste management service that does enough limbering up to bob and weave through the trickier challenges.
Like we said, there’s always someone ready to help just a phone call away…
We’re proud to wear the colours
SunSkips sponsors Ipswich Vale Exiles’ tracksuit tops
Not gonna lie, we get a real kick out of seeing the SunSkips logo on the shirts of our favourite players.
But we get an extra special feeling knowing that promoting our Ipswich skip hire services through sponsorship is helping these clubs keep moving forward – especially in these difficult times for live sports events.
Ipswich Vale Exiles said, “A massive thank you to SunSkips for sponsoring the first team’s tracksuit tops.
“We’ve been incredibly lucky with a number of generous sponsors coming in to support us this year and without them, no club at our level could ever survive. We appreciate it more than you could know!”
We’ll keep the ref off your back
It goes without saying that you don’t want a skip hire firm on your team if it’s going to lead to an unpleasant knock on the door from the authorities.
Unscrupulous waste management providers should be avoided at all costs, because many simply dump the waste out onto quiet country lanes and scarper off with your cash, rather than paying the appropriate fees to have the waste processed legally.
We’re already seeing authorities announcing crackdowns on fly-tippers in Suffolk and Cambridgeshire after incident rates shot up over lockdown.
As an example of how badly things can go, one Thetford couple recently ended up with an eye-watering fine for using an unlicensed waste collector.
We treat the whole team with respect
Professionalism is a key quality that five-star skip hire services strive for, and each member of the SunSkips’ team prides themselves on delivering that customer service promise every day.
At SunSkips, professionalism means respect, punctuality, skilled drivers, helpful staff, social responsibility and legal, sustainable waste management practices.
From a cynical point of view, we believe that operating professionally is the only strategy to win. But on a more personal level, anything less is just not cricket…
We make transfers drama-free
Transferring players can often lead to dramatic headlines in the sports pages, but we prefer the zero-stress approach when it comes to waste transfers.
Waste transfer notes are legal documents that prove the transfer of waste from one party to another.
And because they’re a bit of a hassle, SunSkips takes care of it all for you and emails the documentation so you don’t get inky fingers.
We’re keen to join your team as soon as you’re ready to sign us! Call the SunSkips office to discuss bringing in the MVP in waste management to significantly up your skip hire game.
