What are skip bags best used for?

Skip bags are best suited to smaller jobs where you have a manageable amount of waste and want a simple collection option.

They're suitable for small household clear-outs, DIY waste, garden waste, rubble, soil, wood, plastics, metal, general household waste, light renovation projects, and jobs with limited access.

If you're dealing with a larger project, with higher volumes of waste or ongoing building work, a full skip may be the better choice.

Skip bag or skip: which should you choose?

A skip bag is a good choice when you have more waste than a tip run can handle, but not enough to need a full skip. It's also a practical option when access is tight, you want a smaller waste collection option, or you're clearing DIY, garden or light renovation waste.

A skip may be better when you have a larger amount of waste, need a full container on site, are managing a bigger renovation or building project, expect to create waste over several days, or need more capacity than a bag can offer.

Not sure what to choose? Our friendly team can help you decide whether a skip bag or skip is better for your job.

What can I put in a skip bag?

Skip bags accept the same waste types as our skips, which means they can be used for common non-hazardous waste from home, garden, DIY and renovation jobs: general household waste, garden waste, soil, rubble, wood, plastic, metal, non-hazardous DIY waste and light renovation waste.

Certain items can't go in a skip bag, just like they cannot go in our skips. This includes hazardous or restricted materials such as asbestos, chemicals, paints, clinical or medical waste, fluorescent tubes, solvents, liquids, oil, batteries, hazardous or toxic materials and gas cylinders.

If you're unsure whether something can go in your bag, contact the SunSkips team before ordering.

What you need to know before ordering a skip bag

A skip bag is simple to use, but a little planning helps make collection easier.

  • Choose a safe place for your bag: Place your bag somewhere accessible for collection. Avoid blocking roads, pavements, fire exits or access for emergency vehicles.
  • Don't overfill it: Your bag needs to be safe to collect. Keep waste inside the bag and do not fill it past the maximum fill line.
  • Check your waste type: Skip bags accept the same waste types as skips, but hazardous and restricted items are not allowed.
  • Think about the size of the job: If you're likely to create more waste than one bag can hold, a full skip may be a better option.
  • Call us within six months: Your skip bag must be collected within six months of delivery. Please call us when it's ready, as bags left longer than six months may incur addi charges.
