7 yard skip hire
The yard skip is one size down from our builders skip and can be used for slightly larger home/office renovations, and larger garden clear-outs.
The 7 yard skip offers extra space for bulkier waste without stepping up to a full builders skip. It’s ideal for kitchen refits, large garden clearances, and renovation projects that produce more waste than a standard 6 yard can handle.

Is a 7-yard skip the right fit for my project?
When it looks like your waste is going to be too much for a standard 6-yard skip but you don’t quite need to go all the way up to a full builder’s skip, the 7-yard option is a smart middle ground.
A 7-yard skip is perfect for kitchen and bathroom renovations, larger garden projects, or clearing out bulky household items. It’s big enough to handle up to 55 bin bags of waste (about 5.3 cubic metres), yet still compact enough to sit comfortably on most driveways.
Whether you’re dealing with bricks, hardcore, soil, or general domestic junk, this skip makes loading easy with a convenient drop-down door – perfect for using a wheelbarrow.
How much can you fit in a 7-yard skip?
With dimensions of 2.9m x 1.75m x 1.2m (9’5” x 5’9” x 4’0”), a 7-yard skip gives you plenty of room to load up your waste.
It’s roughly enough space to hold:
- 55 bin bags
- Nine trailer loads
- 5.3 cubic metres of mixed waste
That makes it ideal for medium-sized waste volumes when you’ve got more than a 6-yard can handle but want to avoid overpaying for a bigger container.
And remember: skips must not be filled above the marked level. If you’re even slightly unsure whether your waste will fit, it’s often more cost-effective to choose the next size up.
Planning your skip delivery
Before your skip arrives, think about where it will go. If you’ve got space on your own property, like a driveway, that’s usually the easiest option.
If your skip needs to go on the road, you’ll need a skip permit from the council. SunSkips can take care of that admin for you for a fee (mostly made up of the charge from your local authority).
To make delivery smooth and safe, be sure to:
- Clear the area before your delivery slot
- Move vehicles or bins out of the way
- Let the driver know which direction you’d like the door to face
What kind of vehicle delivers a 7-yard skip?
We use two types of skip lorries, depending on access and skip size:
- 12-tonne lorries (used for skips up to 8 yards) need a 2.4m (8ft) width and 3.2m (10.4ft) height clearance.
- 18-tonne lorries (used for heavier loads) require 2.6m (8.4ft) width and 3.5m (11.6ft) height.
If you’ve got tight access or overhead obstructions, let us know and we’ll make sure the right lorry is dispatched.
