March 21, 2025SunEnviro’s very own Mat Stewart swapped the skip yard for a jail cell last week, taking part in East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Jail or Bail 2025 fundraiser.
Alongside fellow Suffolk “convicts” John Dugmore and James Roper, as well as other business leaders in the region, the SunEnviro managing director was locked up at The Treehouse children’s hospice in Ipswich.
While behind bars, Mat had to race against the clock to raise £1,000 in “bail money” to secure his release.

The response to Mat’s pleas for help were overwhelming, prompting the “authorities” to raise his bail to £3,000. In the end, Mat’s impressive fundraising efforts came in at a huge £3,860 as friends, family and other local businesses rushed in with support
“I’ll pay to keep him locked up!” joked one donator. “Well done, Mat! Great idea and good luck from all at Midas Waste!” said another.
The Suffolk trio not only met their targets but exceeded all expectations, collectively raising an incredible £15,050.88.
Across all three hospice locations, the event brought in an outstanding £38,225 for EACH, which provides vital care and support for children with life-threatening conditions and their families.
Thanks to their efforts, the charity can afford:
- 30 sessions of music, art or physical therapy
- 20 sessions of hydrotherapy
- 10 nights of care in a hospice for a child
- 5 clinical nurse specialist consultations
- 2 bereavement support groups
- 1 sibling day

Anna Bruce, Senior Corporate Fundraiser at EACH, praised the participants for their dedication.
She said, “The enthusiasm on the day was amazing and I can’t thank everyone enough for the hard work they put into the preparation and on the day of EACH’s Jail or Bail.”
Local police added an extra layer of excitement to an already fun event. Suffolk Constabulary officers got involved by chasing down, cuffing and carting the “corporate criminals” off to wait for the verdict of their bail pleas.
Ana added, “A huge thank you to the team for the support, it really added to the fun and got our ‘convicts’ into the spirit of the day.”
Mat was delighted to take part in the event, calling it a rewarding experience that brought the local community together for a great cause.
He said, “Spending the day behind bars was a small price to pay to support such an incredible charity.
“The support we received was overwhelming, and I’m so proud to have been part of something that will have such a positive impact on local families.”
With the success of this year’s event, EACH is already looking ahead to future fundraising opportunities. Anyone feeling inspired to take part in next year’s Jail or Bail or support EACH in other ways can reach out to Anna Bruce at anna.bruce@each.org.uk.
