January 12, 2024It’s been an incredible year for SunSkips.
From giant cheques to expansion across East Anglia, 2023 brought more big news than ever for the growing waste management firm.
As we drive ever forward into 2024, it’s a fitting moment to look back at some key SunSkips news and impactful contributions to various communities and initiatives.
SunSkips takes a bite out of fly-tipping
When Stowmarket’s Food Museum encountered fly-tipping at its new allotment site, they knew exactly who to call.
The museum was transitioning to the allotment due to flooding at their previous location, but they faced an overwhelming amount of dumped waste on the land.
In response, SunSkips donated an 8-yard skip, easing the burden of clearing and sorting through the accumulated rubbish for the volunteers.
SunSkips also handed over a free skip to Brave Futures to support the Ipswich charity’s change of premises, one for a renovation at Cambridge community centre Abbey People and another to help keep Stowmarket Carnival alive.
Adapting to new waste regulations
SunSkips is a compliant waste management firm that makes sure customers know what they can and can’t recycle.
In 2023, there were two new regulations to get to grips with. Soft seating was banned from skips due to the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) found inside. And wood from houses built before 2007 was classed as potentially hazardous.
SunSkips got to work making sure everyone understood the changes well in advance, and found solutions for clients with special collections for soft seating and older wood.
Local charity donations
It wasn’t all about waste management at SunSkips in 2023.
The skip hire company showed its commitment to local causes by contributing £500 to the Relay For Life in Bury St Edmunds and £5,000 to Bury St Edmunds’ SENsory Youth Theatre.
SunSkips will continue its charitable streak in 2024.
SunSkips praised by local Ted talker
SunSkips crossed paths with a notable personality while going the extra mile to right a wrong.
Helen Morris Brown, a crisis management expert, found that a former SunSkips lorry driver had damaged her car. When she called in, she met our transport manager Joe Neill, who swiftly took responsibility.
Joe’s genuine approach and proactive actions to resolve the issue impressed Helen, leading her to commend SunSkips’ professionalism, transforming the incident into a positive testimonial for the company’s exemplary customer service.
Rolling in the latest lorry tech
The year also saw SunSkips upgrading its fleet, signifying its commitment to efficiency and service enhancement.
SunSkips’ Ipswich site introduced four advanced Volvo FL 250 4X2 Rigid 18-tonne lorries. Each came packed with safety features like collision warning systems, lane departure alerts, and enhanced visibility for drivers to navigate urban areas efficiently.
These vehicles also boast advanced technologies like four-way camera systems, safety lighting, and predictive diagnostic systems to reduce breakdowns and improve efficiency.
New soil cleaning site approved at Thetford
Plans to develop a new Thetford site dedicated to recycling soil and aggregate were approved.
It will potentially prevent 100,000 tonnes of construction waste from reaching landfills.
A soil and aggregate cleaning facility is the next step on SunSkips’ journey to be as sustainable as possible with the waste it manages across the region.
SunSkips sponsors Stowmarket United FC home shirt
SunSkips became Stowmarket United FC’s official home kit sponsor for the 2023-24 season.
This marked SunSkips’ first home kit sponsorship with the brand’s logo prominently displayed on the team’s jerseys.
Managing director Mathew Stewart expressed SunSkips’ enthusiasm for supporting local clubs, highlighting their crucial role within the community.
SunSkips has plenty up its sleeve for the year ahead. Here’s to an even more eventful 2024!
